Becca’s Story
I was born in 1992 in Central Florida, I grew up riding horses, dancing, and working in my family’s businesses.
I made my first skydive in April 2010 and promptly fell in love with it. My first solo jump was a month later, and thus started my 11 year career.
I started by packing parachutes, then achieved my tandem instructor* rating, accelerated free fall instructor** rating, and was working towards being one of the very few female tandem instructor examiners*** when I had my life-changing accident on July 7, 2021.
An extremely hot day created lots of thermic activity, and my parachute did not land properly. Instead, I got dragged across the ground at a high speed, landing on my head, breaking my C3 and C4 vertebrae, leaving me a ventilator-dependent quadriplegic.
I fought for my life over the next week and have very few memories of that time.
Since then, I have continued to heal, grow stronger, and become more independent.
I now live at home with her parents, Bob and Tina, who are my best friends and full-time caregivers.
I also participate in adaptive sailing and snow skiing through T.R.A.I.L.S. program. And have a fully adaptive office where I sell Cutco knives and I am about to start work for Craig H. Neilson Rehabilitation Hospital and T.R.A.I.L.S.
Despite the immense challenges, I find joy in stand-up comedy, great wine, and the love of an incredible group of friends. I feel incredibly lucky to be alive and do my best. To embrace each day with humor, and gratitude.
